Underwriter

My client is seeking an experienced Underwriter with a strong background in commercial lending and real estate portfolio management.

The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of financial analysis, risk assessment, and underwriting principles to evaluate and approve commercial loan applications.

As a Commercial Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in mitigating financial risks and ensuring the overall health and success of our commercial lending and real estate portfolios.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and analyse commercial loan applications, assessing the financial health and creditworthiness of borrowers.
• Conduct thorough financial statement analysis, cash flow projections, and collateral evaluations to determine the level of risk associated with each loan request. 
• Collaborate with loan officers, relationship managers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information for the underwriting process.
• Utilise industry knowledge and market trends to assess the risks and opportunities associated with commercial lending and real estate portfolios.
• Identify and analyse potential risks, proposing mitigating strategies to ensure sound lending decisions.
• Stay abreast of regulatory requirements and industry best practices to maintain compliance in underwriting activities.
• Monitor and manage an existing portfolio of commercial loans and real estate assets.
• Conduct regular portfolio reviews, identifying any signs of credit deterioration or emerging risks.
• Recommend and implement strategies for portfolio optimization and risk mitigation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including loan officers, legal, and finance, to ensure a streamlined underwriting process.
• Communicate effectively with clients, providing clear explanations of underwriting decisions and addressing any inquiries or concerns.
• Ensure accurate and complete documentation for all underwriting activities.
• Maintain a high level of compliance with internal policies, external regulations, and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in commercial underwriting, with a focus on commercial lending and real estate portfolios.
• Strong analytical and financial modelling skills.
• In-depth knowledge of commercial lending practices, real estate markets, and regulatory requirements.
